Rocking Out

The past week was a tough one for me for many different reasons. Unfortunately, that means I withdraw from the world, including my blog. This is a nasty habit that I am trying to break, but old habits die hard!

Husband told me that I should think about what I would say to my mom, sister or a good friend after a tough week, but I was empty and had nothing to say.

As I was gearing up for another Monday, I came across a post by Seth Godin that really spoke to me and finally gave me something to say:

You Rock
This is deceptive.

You don't rock all the time. No one does. No one is a rock star, superstar, world-changing artist all the time. In fact, it's a self-defeating goal. You can't do it.

No, but you might rock five minutes a day.

Five minutes to write a blog post that changes everything, or five minutes to deliver an act of generosity that changes someone. Five minutes to invent a great new feature, or five minutes to teach a groundbreaking skill in a way that no one ever thought of before. Five minutes to tell the truth (or hear the truth).

Five minutes a day you might do exceptional work, remarkable work, work that matters. Five minutes a day you might defeat the lizard brain long enough to stand up and make a difference.

And five minutes of rocking would be enough, because it would be five minutes more than just about anyone else.

How awesome is that? It is so true. You rock. I rock. We rock. But, we don't rock all the time.

No one does.

And that is okay.

We make it impossible to meet our own expectations and we use that as an excuse to feel like a failure and get down on ourselves. We need to remember that no matter what, you can rock for five minutes today.

Rock on!

How did you rock today?
